Water dreams of Heaven and Earth
The development is near the confluence of the Qiantang River and the Grand Canal, so the client and UAP curatorial team were emphasising the flow of water in the design considerations.
I was natually drawn to the theme, and tried to find a form reflecting the dynamics of circulating flow cycles.
Like most of my work, the form is spanning a single spaceknot, but this one has some wave-like undulations rather than being entirely orbital.
The project was managed by Urban Art Projects Shanghai, who also fabricated the sculptures in their workshops on the outscirts of the city. I am always grateful for their support and skilled team of panel beaters who do such an amazing job with these complex forms and transitions of curvature.
