The site outside the Headquarters of Lingang Science & Technology City has a strong tension between an oval water feature and a round opening leading up to the upper levels of the building. The site invited a form that conveys that strong uplifting tension.
The dynamic form is based on a strange attractor that has a fascinating threefold symmetry, discovered by Norwegian mathematician / engineer Svein Halvorsen in the 1970’s.
Its topology is similar to a toroidal space curve travelling around a torus (donut) three times, creating a non-orientable surface, like a Moebius strip.
